When carrying a bun in the oven, our bodies are constantly changing. Raging hormones are the norm, and there may be an increase in anxiety and concerns about our health and the health of the baby. These issues not only affect our mental and emotional health, but they can also affect our skin!

Below I will cover some of the basics of skin care, beauty products, and pregnancy, and how clay masks play a part.

One positive aspect of this is that we may make it a point to evaluate our skincare routine when we are expecting. Not just for the purpose of beauty, but also for overall health reasons.

Unfortunately, there is not much research available on this subject. But that makes sense—the risk factors involving the health of the fetus, as well as the mom-to-be is just too high.

Most doctors and dermatologists do have a standard recommendation though, and that is to err on the side of caution.

The best way to care for yourself and your baby on the way is to use natural and organic products and avoid harsh chemicals, especially those applied topically.

There are quite a few different types of clay masks available for use today. The most common are clay masks and sheet masks, so I will focus on these two.

Sheet masks are very popular in the Korean and asian skincare markets right now. Although these may seem simple and fun, they may not be very hygienic. Recently there has been some information exposing unsanitary conditions during the packaging process of these masks.

It varies from mask to mask, but many of them have chemicals and unnatural materials.

Because clay is natural and derived from the earth and plant materials, it is generally considered to be the safest kind of mask to use during pregnancy.

Pregnant women have much higher likelihood of having sensitive skin due to allergens and environmental factors. Even products that you normally use may upset your skin! So sticking with something that has one or very few ingredients will always be gentler on the skin.
